REIKI
"There is a force in the Universe, which, if we permit it, will flow through us and produce miraculous results."
- Mahatma Gandhi
Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray Key’) is a non-intrusive Japanese practice that recognises the non-duality between body and soul, and the interconnectedness of all life. A simple and natural holistic practice, the system of Reiki helps us to become more consciously aware and mindful. It helps us to feel happier, more relaxed, and healthier, supporting the body's innate healing processes. It is extremely easy to learn and beautifully complements traditional allopathic treatments. Reiki is a Japanese term that points to our True Self, our Essence - our True Nature.
The word Reiki describes the harmonious universal life force energy that is omnipresent in every living thing, in the air we breathe, in the sky, the water, the earth, the air. The kanji Rei can be translated as ‘Spirit’, ‘Life’, ‘Soul’, ‘Inconceivable spiritual ability’, ‘Bright’, ‘Unpolluted’, ‘Pure’, ‘Divine’, ‘Mysterious’, ‘Blessing’. The kanji Ki translates as ‘Mind’, ‘Spirit’, ‘Breath’, ‘Energy’, ‘Air’, ‘Invisible life force’, ‘Steam', 'Vital energy connected to the breath’, 'Atmosphere'. We hear this benevolent, infinite life force energy referred to in other cultures by many different names;
Qi or Chi (Chinese), Prana (Sanskrit), Aether or Ether (Latin), Spiritus (Latin), Mana (Polynesian), Pneuma (Ancient Greek), Sekhem (Egyptian), Great Spirit (Native American), Lüng (Tibetan Buddhism), Rûah or Ruach (Hebrew), Quintessence (Middle English), to name but a few.
This vital essence gives life to all creative thought and action and sustains us, impacting all aspects of our being. It is widely recognised that very many imbalances and dis-eases have their origins in habitual disempowering thought patterns, and in powerful emotions such as anger, fear, grief, shame, guilt, anxiety, and stress. Whilst no emotion is inherently wrong or bad if we express it and then move on, if we chronically express or suppress an emotion it can have an effect upon our physical health. If we don't clear the chronic emotion and challenge our thoughts and beliefs, or change a troubling situation the symptoms are likely to return.
A Reiki session is deeply relaxing and promotes a sense of well-being, providing the ideal environment for self-healing and enabling body, mind, and soul to return to balance and peace. A Reiki practitioner will not give any diagnosis, nor will they prescribe any medicine. Reiki can have an extraordinary impact regardless of whether we doubt its benefits. My experience is that Reiki is gentle and soothing, but the results are frequently powerful and effective.
"There may be one out of ten who believes in my method before a treatment. Most of them learn the benefit after the first treatment, then they believe in the method."
